runescape rule 15-Advert Blocking

You must not deliberately block or hide the adverts which appear above the free version of our game.
If you have advert blocking software please prevent it from blocking adverts on our website. The adverts above the free game are what enable us to keep it free after all!
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
The adverts above the Free-to-play version of RuneScape are what enable us to keep the free game running! The sponsors who show their adverts there are the ones paying for you to enjoy a free game in the first place, so please don't block them.
What if I find an advert to be offensive?
If you believe there is an offensive advert, please click on the Question-Mark "Icon" shown to the bottom right of the advert. This will pop up a window with instructions on how to report that advert.
Once we have this report, we can then look into the advert that is causing you offence, the last thing we want is for any of the advertising that we are supplied with to cause any offense to our players.
What if adverts slow my PC down?
Certain animated adverts may cause your PC to slow down whilst they are displayed. This is because your computer is busy running the advert animation which gives it less time to run the game.
Most adverts don't cause any noticeable effect, but some ones with particularly complex animations may cause slowdown. To limit the effect that this has on your system, right click on the advert and under the quality heading, select low.
If there is an advert which is causing particularly bad slow down, even when you set it to low quality, then please report it to us. Click on the Question-Mark "Icon" shown to the bottom right of the advert. This will pop up a window with instructions on how to report that advert.

Why do we have this rule?

runescape rule 13-Personal Contact Details

For our players' privacy and safety, you must not ask for personal contact details such as fullname, home address or telephone number from another player.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule in place to protect your privacy and ensure your safety. Not only may giving out your personal details affect the security of your account, (as they may be used to make a false password recovery request), but it is also risky to tell people you meet over the internet your personal details.
What does personal details include?
Personal details are considered to include email addresses and Instant Messenger screen names/contact details.
Is it all right if I ask my friend for their address?
We do not recommend that you ask any other RuneScape players their personal details.
Please be aware that you will meet many players. Therefore, please remember to keep safe in-game, and to read and follow our Play Safely Guide.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 12-Real World Item Trading

RuneScape items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the game.
Exchanging RuneScape items for items or other benefits in other online games, real-life money or other real-life benefits is not allowed.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule for three reasons: Firstly because we don’t want RuneScape to be just a game in which you can buy your way to success, if we let players start doing this it devalues the game for other players. We feel your status in real-life shouldn’t affect your ability to be successful in the game. Secondly we cannot monitor the transactions made between players outside the game, and if players swap items for external benefits we can’t see, to us it looks like an unbalanced suspicious trade. Thirdly, often when players attempt to break this rule and sell items for real cash the items are actually stolen, so you could even end up getting in trouble for receiving stolen property. If you purchased an account you might find it suddenly returned to the original rightful owner and yourself out of pocket.
Isn’t it up to me what I do with my items & account?
No, the terms and conditions state that your RuneScape character and account and items are and remain the property of Jagex.
I have seen an account for sale on Ebay, what should I do?
Please rest assured that members of Jagex staff check all known auction sites on a daily basis to ensure that no RuneScape accounts are sold via an online auctioning web site.
It should be remembered that all accounts (and items) remain the property of Jagex at all times, and we will not hesitate to remove such items from the game if we have evidence that rule breaking has taken place.
Am I allowed to accept a forum signature as payment for an item?
Forum signatures are not items or services in-game, therefore you are not able to accept these as payment for an item in-game.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 11-Adwertising/Website

You are not allowed to actively advertise in the RuneScape game or RuneScape forums.
This includes advertising any website or product and no web addresses are allowed. Telling other players any web-address is not allowed.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
Links to sites can sometimes be dangerous to players (by leading you to sites with inappropriate content) or your computer (by downloading a virus when you go to the site). So, this precaution has been taken in order that no links to any sites may be advertised in-game or in the RuneScape Forums, thereby protecting you and your computer.
Does this rule include giving out the link to my clan/fan site?
Yes. Unfortunately we just don’t have the resources to check every website being mentioned, and even well meaning sites could inadvertently contain risks. So this rule covers ALL websites.
Can I advertise my website in RuneScape?
No, you cannot. As you may know, some sites are used to harvest unsuspecting players' passwords which spoils players enjoyment of the game. We take password security very seriously and therefore have to enforce a rule whereby no websites are advertised in game.
Clearly this may result in an injustice against players who create websites designed to help the RuneScape Community. However, we need to ensure that player accounts are absolutely secure, and to this end we have developed this policy. We hope that at some point in the future this can change, and more community sites will take the place of hack sites. For the time being though, account security is absolutely essential.
Do you have any conditions that you would like Fan Sites to abide by?
Yes we do. Please see the below:
* The site should abide by the Terms of Service for RuneScape.
* The site should not promote any activity that is against our Rules of Conduct.
* The site should not publish an article or text taken from the Jagex, or RuneScape website without permission. If you do use any text or images you must acknowledge runescape.com as the source, and link back to our site.
* The site should not link to or promote any adult sites, or sites that conflict with Jagex interests.
* The site should not promote any sites or information that provide or support hacking, software piracy, or other illegal activities.
Can I promote my Clan website in the game or in the forums?
It is a breach of the rules to post anything promoting a website in the forums or in the game. As such if you do post the URL for your clan site you could get banned.
We understand this will cause you inconvenience but please remember that this rule is there to make it impossible for people to send players to scam sites.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 10-False Representation

You must not misuse RuneScape Customer Support. This includes threatening or reporting an innocent person, supplying false information, and, abusing Jagex staff.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule so we can help and assist you as quickly as possible. Misuse of customer support prevents us from helping players who genuinely need assistance.
What sort of things would be classed as ‘misuse of customer support’?
Submitting false abuse reports, making false password requests (attempting to steal someone else's account), sending offensive messages to Jagex staff, or misuse of the in-game Report Abuse button can lead to Customer Support being withdrawn from your account.
I would like some of my levels to be altered. Is this possible?
We are afraid that we cannot alter ANY players stats for ANY reason. We have the firm belief that all skills must be earned through game play, and, should be representative of the activity undertaken on that account. This is the case regardless of whether a player wishes a certain skill to be raised or lowered.
Can I have some free items?
Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to give players any items, stats, or quest completions upon request. All items must be earned through game play.
We understand that it can be upsetting to see other players going around with high levels and top-end equipment when you don't have any, but don't lose heart. Keep on training, questing, fighting, and playing and you will soon have good stuff all on your own.
Are there any cheats for RuneScape?
There are no cheat codes available for RuneScape, nor do we have any intention of adding any to the game. All gains have to be made fairly and via honest game play: any usage of cheats or bugs, or attempting to discover the existence of any cheats or bugs, is a direct violation of the Rules of Conduct.
Please do not send in any more requests for such information as your account will be banned for attempted Cheating and for Misuse of Customer Support if you do so.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 9-Encouraging Others to Break Rules

You must not encourage others to break any of the RuneScape rules.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
If other players encourage you to disobey and break the rules it may lead to you being punished unfairly preventing you from enjoying the game.
What do you mean by encouraging others to break the rules?
Examples of encouraging others to break any of the RuneScape rules would include:
* Convincing other players that the rules of RuneScape are different to what they actually are.* Trying to get a reaction from another player by using offensive language against them.* Using third party software to abuse bugs found in RuneScape.
My friend says you can play a part of the game without the requirement. Am I allowed to try it?
No, this could be a bug and under no circumstances are you to abuse it. In the event that you do discover a bug within the game, you are obliged to report it using the Report a bug/fault in the Information and Advice section located on the RuneScape homepage.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 8-Multiple Logging in

You may create more than one RuneScape account, but if you do, you may not log in more than one account at any time, and they must not interact with each other in any way. This includes 'drop trading' or any other method of item transfer.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule to maintain a fair gaming experience. We don’t want RuneScape to become a game where everyone feels they need to use multiple accounts at once just to compete! It’s much better to team up with your friends.
Can I use third party software to log in to an account for me while I am logging into another (so that I personally am only using one account)?
No, you may not use third party software to transfer items - see Rule 7.
I have two accounts. Can my friend play one so I can trade between the characters?
No, this goes against this rule. You are not allowed to trade between two characters owned by one player. You would also be in breach of the Account Sharing/Trading rule (see Rule 6).
Can I give items to another player from one of my accounts, so that they can then give the items to another character that I play?
No, this goes against the rule. You may not transfer items between your accounts in any way.
My brother and I both play from our own accounts in our house. Is it all right if we trade items?
Yes, this is not going against the rules of conduct providing you are both playing from two separate accounts created by each of you.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 7-macroing

You must not attempt to use other programs (e.g. bots, macros or autominers) in conjunction with our games to give yourself an unfair advantage at the game. You also may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to log out inactive users automatically.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
Firstly macroing ruins the game for everyone else. We don't want some players having an unfair advantage and filling up all the best training spots with bots. This game is designed to be enjoyed by humans, not bots. In the past when we have not enforced this rule, we have rapidly found it quickly spoils the game, and players themselves start demanding that we enforce it. So now we enforce it thoroughly. Secondly we don't want players to download macro software from untrusted sources that can, and often do, contain keyloggers, trojans and viruses. Many players have had their accounts stolen because they have inadvertently installed hacking software on their machines.
How does the new macro detection system work?
Our new macro detection system monitors activity on our servers and detects suspicious behaviour. This evidence is reviewed by our team of experts who either confirm or reject the systems analysis. Jagex will not reveal the exact mechanics of how this system works because this would make circumvention easier.
What type of third party software counts as an unfair advantage?
This includes, but is not limited to the following 3rd party programs:
* Programs that attempt to communicate directly with the RuneScape game worlds.* Programs that monitor, modify or decrypt the communications between the RuneScape client and the RuneScape worlds.* Programs that generate input to the RuneScape client. This includes programs that automatically move the mouse pointer or generate mouse clicks or key presses.* Modified versions of the RuneScape client. Reverse engineering the RuneScape client is strictly prohibited. Using a modified version of the RuneScape client is not permitted.
Will I be able to appeal against a ban for macroing?
Our policy has always been to not tolerate any form of cheating. We do not ban accounts lightly. Significant evidence is always collected before any action is taken against a player. We will not reveal the evidence that we have collected, since most cheats only want to know the evidence so that they can avoid getting caught the next time.
What is AFK Training?
AFK training is Away From Keyboard training. Whilst you are playing on RuneScape, you must be at the computer. Away from keyboard training is not allowed, and you should log out when you leave the computer.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 6-Account Sharing/trading

Each account should only be used by ONE person. Account sharing is NOT allowed. You may not sell, transfer or lend your account to anyone else, or permit anyone else to use your account, and you may not accept an account that anybody else offers you. Related Questions Below are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule. Why do we have this rule? We have this rule for two reasons. Firstly, many of the accounts people try to sell are actually accounts they have stolen, so, by buying the account you are helping them profit from their crime, and encouraging them to do it more! Secondly, this rule is for your protection, as people who share accounts run the risk that the person using the account won't give it back, or that the person will break a game rule causing your account to be banned. What about swapping my account with another player? This is considered account trading, so it is not allowed under the game rules. Can I sell the 'time' I have put into the account? No. Under the game rules each account should only be used by one person. This applies throughout the lifetime of that account. In order to sell the 'time' you have put into an account, you would have to transfer or lend the account to someone else, thereby breaking the game rules. My 'brother/sister/friend/other' borrowed my account and broke a rule and now it's banned: Please can you unban it? Account sharing is not allowed, so if you break this rule and do so anyway you will be responsible for the consequences. The offence won't be removed because you shouldn't

runescape rule 5-Jagex Staff Impersonation

You should not attempt to impersonate Jagex staff in any way, for any reason.
The names of Jagex Staff will have a gold crown next to their name when speaking in-game. Anyone who does not have a gold crown next to their name is not Jagex staff. This applies to both private chat and general in game chat.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule in place so our players can identify members of Jagex staff and to ensure that players can trust members of our staff for help and support with any game related problems they may have.
Someone claiming to work for Jagex has asked me for my account details. Should I give it to them?
There are three ways to recognise Jagex Staff:
* Jagex Staff characters always have gold crowns next to their names* Jagex Staff will never ask for a password.* Jagex Staff will never contact you about your account in game.
We have no 'undercover' staff, we have no need for your password to check your account, and we only communicate with players about account issues via their message center.
If you ever see anyone attempting to impersonate a Jagex Staff member or any other player then we would ask you to use the 'Report Abuse' button located at the bottom of the screen, and follow the on screen prompts so that we can take the appropriate actions against their account.
If Jagex Staff have gold crowns, who are the players in-game that have silver crowns?
The players that have silver crowns by their names when speaking in-game are Player Moderators. Anyone that does not have a silver crown next to their name is not a Player Moderator.
For more information on Player Moderators please see the Player Moderator section in Customer Support.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 4-Cheating/Bug Abuse

You must not use or attempt to use any cheats or errors which you find in our software.Any exploits which you find must be immediately reported to Jagex through Customer Support.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have put a lot of effort into balancing the game to make it as fair and fun as possible.Unintended bugs can spoil the effect of the game, so we obviously want to fix them as quickly as possible. Deliberately taking advantage of a bug can unbalance the game economy or devalue other players achievements, so it is against the rules.
What if I find a bug by accident? I don't want to get banned for accidentally discovering a bug!
As long as you report the bug to us straight away, don't tell anyone else until we fix it, and don't use the bug any more, then you WON'T get in trouble. Indeed we will be very grateful. However if you don't tell us, or deliberately use it again and again, then you would be breaking the rule.
How do I report a bug?
You can report a bug by going to the RuneScape homepage and clicking on Report a bug/fault in the Information and Advice section.
When filling out the bug report form please make sure you include as much detail as possible. This will help us find the bug and fix it as soon as possible. After the form has been filled out it will be sent to a member of Jagex staff to investigate. Please note that Jagex do not give rewards to players that report bugs.
Where can I view bugs that have already been reported?
By going to the bug reporting system in the Customer Support section of the RuneScape website you will see a list of bugs that have already been confirmed. You will be able to see if the confirmed bugs are waiting to be fixed, fixed awaiting to be uploaded, or already fixed. Please note that if we feel that a bug will encourage bug abuse it will not be posted on this list. Please do not report bugs that are already on the confirmed bug list.
Please do not send in requests for such information. If you do so, your account could be banned for attempted cheating and/or for Misuse of Customer Support.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 3-Password Scamming

Asking/trying to persuade another player to give you their password for any reason is against the rules and will not be tolerated.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
This rule is in place to protect our players' accounts. Even if you genuinely only wanted to 'borrow' their account we obviously can't tell the difference between this and a malicious person stealing accounts. So asking other players for their password will be treated VERY seriously.
What if I try to get someone else's password but don't succeed? Have I still broken the rule?
Yes, you have still broken the rule - even if you aren't successful this will almost certainly result in a permanent ban being placed on your account. You shouldn't even be trying to get someone else's password!
What if I ask in a different language?
The rules apply equally to all languages, therefore you will still be breaking the game rules.
I have submitted a Password Request because I have forgotten my password. Why has it not been actioned yet?
You must submit sufficient accurate information to Customer Support in order for us to issue you with your password again. If we feel the information that you have supplied is not adequate for us to consider you the original owner of the account, then we will not give you control of that account.
Please do not send in multiple password requests with inaccurate information to Customer Support, unless you want to present new additional and highly compelling evidence that you are the owner. If you do so this may be deemed a misuse of Customer Support, which may then be withdrawn from your account.
Someone has asked me for my bank PIN. Is it all right if I tell them?
Asking for someone's bank PIN is just as serious as asking for an account password. It allows other players access to your account. Under no circumstances should you tell another player your password, PIN number or any other personal details of your account.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 2-Item Scamming

Rule 2You must not scam or deceive other players. Lying to other players for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of the game.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule to help protect new players, and to help prevent the game being spoilt for others. If you don't understand why we have this rule then try to imagine how you would feel if you had spent hours achieving something and somebody else had then tricked you out of it. We want RuneScape to be fun, and being scammed is anything but fun.
What does 'scam' mean?
To 'scam' means to cheat another player during a trade. Lying to other players for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of the game and will not be tolerated.
Is it a scam to claim an item is rare when it isn't?
Yes
Is it a scam to switch items at the last second before pressing accept, and hoping the other player won't notice?
Yes
Is it a scam to ask for lots of money for an item?
It is not considered a scam to ask for large amounts of money for an item, but it is not in the spirit of the game to over price an item.
It is not our intention to set player-limits on what they trade. It is a player's own responsibility to make sure that they are paying a good price for an item.
We would suggest doing research prior to future trades by using the Runescape.com Marketplace forum or talking to other players.
Remember, the second trade-window is there to keep you safe from scammers. If someone is not giving you enough time to check the items being traded then we would strongly advise you to find someone else to trade with. Do not hit the 'Accept' button in the second stage of trading unless you are totally satisfied with the trade. You will not get in trouble for scamming if you choose to take your time and check that everything is as it should be.
If someone picks up my arrows is that scamming?
No, if someone picks up an item that you have dropped because you no longer require the item then this is not item scamming. When you drop an item it takes a short length of time until it becomes visible to other players, so even if you drop the item accidentally you can still retrieve it again before anyone else has the chance to pick it up.
However, you may not drop items with the intention of trading them to another of your characters. This type of drop-trading is against Rule 8 in the rules of conduct.
Can you trim armour?
No, you cannot trim armour. Armour that is trimmed has been found in-game as trimmed armour. There is no way a player can trim e.g. Asking for Rune armour to make it trimmed.
What are some examples of item scams?
Some examples of item scams are:
* Offering an item and then removing the item within the first or second trade screen.* Offering an item and changing the agreed price within the first or second trade screen.* Misleading players by providing false or inaccurate information, for your own personal gain.
To keep RuneScape enjoyable for everyone please observe and follow this rule. We will not tolerate disruptive players, and if you break our rules your account is likely to be banned. Members who are banned for breaking our rules are not entitled to any sort of refund.

runescape rule 1-offensive language

You must not use any language which may be considered by others to be offensive, racist or obscene. This includes swearing.
Related QuestionsBelow are some related questions which may help you to further understand and follow this rule.
Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule to maintain a pleasant environment in the game. For many people it's not much fun playing if there is someone else being rude or offensive, so please consider others when chatting. Also please remember not everyone playing is the same age or from the same background, so may be more offended or upset than you expect.
What about mis-spelling the offensive word to disguise it? Is that ok?
No, please don't do this. In fact mis-spelling an offensive word or using symbols to replace letters to try and avoid the chat filter is considered even worse.
I was called a 'noob'. Is this offensive? Should I report this player?
Calling other players a 'noob' is quite common in most online games.
It's not something to worry about as it means 'new player'. Every player has to be a 'noob' at some point.
The best thing to do is to ignore them.
If you suffer serious abuse such as receiving racist remarks, harassment or obscene and vulgar language, please report them to us using the in-game Report Abuse button which can be found at the bottom of the game window.
What is flooding the chat window?
Spamming/flooding the chat window is to fill the chat window with unnecessary text. This is also an offence and is disruptive and unfair on other players as it makes it more difficult for them to communicate and trade with each other.
