I'm sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that aside from being a writer here, I'm also a devoted WoW Insider reader. So when all the news from Blizzcon came out, I

was glued to it from here in my own office. However, as I also knew Dragon*Con was just around the corner, I was scouring the

writing of my co-workers for tips for Dragon*Con. This led to a reminder by Robin that I needed to get business cards, as well as

a mention of something called "Moo cards."

Being a great big fan of things with completely silly and incongruous names, I clicked on the link and found the most interesting

little culture had sprung up around these wee tiny little Moo cards. There are people leaving art Moos for others to find, Moo

swaps where you mail your Moo card(s) in trade for other people's Moos, and even an around-the-world Moo. But as I was going to

Dragon*Con, it struck me as a perfect time to check into these Moo cards and get some for myself!

Over the course of planning, I linked the cards to Elizabeth H., who also ordered some for Dragon*Con. Almost as soon as I

received my cards, the folks over on the Wonderland Blog posted pictures of a booklet of the coolest Moo stickers made entirely

with WoW in-game icons. Thus the WoW Moo-vement began around here.

While not as serious-looking as the official Weblogs, Inc. business card is, I really must admit, I love my WoW MOO cards. To me, they fit the overall spirit of WoW Insider (fun!) as well as finally

giving me a use for the gigs of WoW screen-shots I have on my computer. I'd be willing to bet as Elizabeth and I hand them out at

Help with keymapped vs. Lotro ABC

Hi,

I've been looking over the ABC stuff and am starting to understand it. I want to make my own ABC

files. For existing songs (from old standards, or modern songs) I could find the sheet music to translate it to

ABC, but my question is about making original compositions.

What I would want to be able to do is to play around with the keymapped notes (pressing the numbers with shift and control) until

I find a melody or tune that I like, and then write it out as an ABC file for playing again later.

The only thing is, I'm getting confused with what number/key combination corresponds to the ABC notes.

I've seen that the notes available in Lotro ABC are:
C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C D E F G A B c d e f g a b c' z

but how do those correspond to the number keys?

I looked at the key map for the music system and see the following:
(I haven't remapped this, so it should all be default mapping)

1 = C3
2 = D3
3 = E3
4 = F3
5 = G3
6 = A3
7 = B3
8 = C4

CTRL+1 = B2
CTRL+2 = C#3
CTRL+3 = D#3
CTRL+4 = E3
CTRL+5 = F#3
CTRL+6 = G#3
CTRL+7 = A#3
CTRL+8 = B3

SHFT+1 = C4
SHFT+2 = D4
SHFT+3 = E4
SHFT+4 = F4
SHFT+5 = G4
SHFT+6 = A4
SHFT+7 = B4
SHFT+8 = C5

(Why is CTRL+4 mapped to E3 when the other CTRL keys are #? Why is CTRL+4 not E#3? Is this how it's supposed to be or a bad

mapping?)

Okay, so just for an example,....

Let's say I was playing around with the music and came up with the following:

1 1 CTRL1 2 SHFT2 3 SHFT3 CTRL3

(I know this isn't very musical or melodic, but just using it as an example.)

so then according to the key mapping listed above, then this would be:

C3 C3 B2 D3 D4 E3 E4 D#3

so how would I write that out in ABC?

I'm getting confused by the D3 vs. D#3 vs. D4 etc.

Is it possible to see a list of the numbers/key combinations corresponding to the ABC notations?

such as,

1 = C,
CTRL1 = B
SHFT1 = b
2 = c'

(I know these are wrong and don't really match, but just as an example)

Obviously I'm confusing myself, and hopefully not confusing anyone else.
The default key

mapping doesn't 't cover all the available notes. Basically, ii covers three scales: C3 Major, B2 Major, and C4 Major.

The reason the Ctrl keys have naturals is because the B Major scales has them.

If you have songs written down using your keymap (i.e., the keys you press) you're going to have some extra work to convert them

to ABC. ABC requires the notes to show duration, whereas a lot of the keymap songs just gave the notes. 1235321

only tells you the keys you press. CD E2 F2 ED C2 not only tells you the notes, but how long the note plays.

So, how do the default keys map to ABC notation? Like this:

1 = C
2 = D
3 = E
4 = F
5 = G
6 = A
7 = B
8 = c

CTRL+1 = B,
CTRL+2 = ^C
CTRL+3 = ^D
CTRL+4 = E
CTRL+5 = ^F
CTRL+6 = ^G
CTRL+7 = ^A
CTRL+8 = B

SHFT+1 = c
SHFT+2 = d
SHFT+3 = e
SHFT+4 = f
SHFT+5 = g
SHFT+6 = a
SHFT+7 = b
SHFT+8 = c'

Oh, those numbers in the key map options window like C3 C4: they show what scale the note belongs to. ABC does it

a little differently, Instead numbering the scales, they use upper and lower case, commas and apostrophes. The lets them use the

number to indicate note length. C2 is twice as long as C and C/ is half as long.

The eldest of the children of Elrond of Rivendell, the twins Elladan and Elrohir were born 130 years after Isildur cut the One Ring from the hand of Sauron. They are so alike in appearance and demeanor that they are nearly impossible to tell apart. Outwardly, they are not as grim and hardened as the Rangers of the North, but within burns a terrible rage.

Long ago, their mother Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel, was captured by orcs as she journeyed from Lothlórien to Rivendell. The sleepy little hobbit-village of Woodhall lies within the forested arms of Woody End in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. Tucked away well off the Stock Road as it is, Woodhall sees little traffic. Gossip tends to be a favorite pastime for the hobbits who dwell here, and travelers may want to avoid the occasional nosey hobbit if they find themselves passing through.

While the village of Woodhall is relatively small and unimportant, the wooded hills it rests beneath are another matter. Overlooking the village is a wide, green clearing within the forest where the trees form a sort of hall, complete with pillars and canopy. It is rumored that sometimes Elves can be seen traveling through Woody End and that their lights can be seen hanging in the boughs of the clearing some evenings.

The clearing above Woodhall is where The Elf-company of Gildor Inglorion took Frodo Baggins and his companions after startling away the Black Rider who was hunting them in The Fellowship of the Ring. Who can say what players of The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar will find in the encampment above Woodhall?

The noble and respected Gildor Inglorion of the House of Finrod is one of the eldest of the Elves yet remaining in Middle-earth, though his strong, youthful appearance may be deceiving. He now makes his home in the House of Elrond in Rivendell, but he can often be found in the wilds of Middle-earth with a small band of elves under his command. Gildor keeps a watchful eye over the hobbits of the Shire and the other peaceful communities, his keen eyes watching the movements of those that dwell in the darkness and shadows. Gildor is an Elf of much wisdom and immeasurable skill with blade and bow. He has elected to stay in Middle-earth with Elrond and the others, though many of their kin have long since departed across the sea from the Grey Havens.

Though Gildor has a rich history dating back over the centuries of Middle-earth's past, he is perhaps best known as the leader of the band of Elves which frightened away one of the dreaded Black Riders from Frodo and company in the pages of The Fellowship of the Ring. In so doing, Gildor saved the hobbits, welcoming them into the Elf-camp near Woodhall and allowing the companions some much-needed rest.

Gildor and his company are magnificently arrayed, even when on simple patrol, and seem to shimmer with the beauty of moonlight when they move. Wanderers in the lands of Eriador may travel with some degree of comfort, knowing that Gildor and the powerful Elves from Rivendell in the east are watchful over the movements of the Enemy.

Fishing(world of warcraft)

Fishing is one of those secondary WoW skills that many people just ignore. They think it's pretty boring. Well, actually it is a little but you can make 30 to 40 gold and hour at character level 20. Most of the fish you catch will be vendor junk but a few fish have tradeskill uses and sells well in the AH.

The first two won't make a lot of gold but are good for a little extra spending money while you skill up.

Oily Blackmouth sells for around 10 silver each on most servers. Best fishing spots for these are:

Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Southshore, Hillsbrad Foothills
Zoram'gar Outpost Ashenvale
The Merchant Coast, The Barrens
Near Northwatch Hold, The Barrens
Baradin Bay

Firefin sell for 5 silver each and can be caught in many zones. My favorites are:

Blackwolf River in Stonetalon Mountains
Dreadmurk Shore in Dustwallow Marsh
Western Strand Fishing in Hillsbrad Foothills

One your fishing skill is well into the 200's, you can start raking in the gold. Fish for Stonescale Eel, the price depends on the server as always but 1 to 1.5 gold each is common. You can easily get 20 to 30 an hour fishing in these spots:

Bay of Storms in Azshara
Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas

A special mention for Deviate Fish which sells for about 20 silver each in Horde AH and up to 1 gold in the Alliance AH on PvP servers.

The fish can be caught in any Oasis in The Barrens which is why fishing there isn't a popular pastime for Alliance characters on PvP servers. One little know fact however is that the Wailing Caverns instance is on the same fishing loot table. Once your Alliance character is 30+, you can happily zone into WC kill the 3 or 4 mobs in the entrance and fish all day undisturbed.

My lesson today is about....... no your not at school, but I do hope this post helps you in your everyday life as well as Runescape.

Accountability, if you do not know what it means enter the following text into your Google search box, define: accountability .

It is very easy to blame other people for your actions or problems, for example the most common and these are so common you hear about them everyday on Runescape, I got hacked, I got scammed, that player got me killed.

When you play Runescape you are in control of a character and an account, it is your responsibility to keep both safe.

If you tell someone your password even a very close and trusted friend there is a chance you will have an argument and a very good chance your ex friend will tell others your password just to upset you, you then stand a chance of losing your items or your account.

In this situation you could say that your friend hacked you, if you had not told them your password they would not have hacked you so it is your fault not your friends or ex friends.

It is not easy to hack or crack an account despite what people say so if your account is stolen it is because you told someone your password, or your password was easy to guess, it is your responsibility to have a difficult password to guess.

Many people say I was scammed and lost items, it is not the scammers fault it is still your fault, Jagex give you all the tools to prevent being scammed, when you trade you have a second trade screen you should check it every time, check the item and the quantity every time you trade, get into this habit and you will NEVER be scammed, I am so used to doing this that I check even trading with friends that I trust.

"That player got me killed" no player can get you killed, if you go down with the mole in Fally park and a player asks you to turn off the light if you turn off the light you will get eaten by insects, if you die the player asking you to turn off the light did not get you killed, you got yourself killed by turning off the light, there used to be a situation where people asked you to get the Zammy wine and they would give you a reward, taking the wine without using telegrab you would be attacked by the wizards there and a good chance of death, it was still your responsibility to make sure it was safe before doing something so you got yourself killed, this has changed now and it is very difficult to get yourself killed there now but bad players will still find ways of encouraging you to kill yourself.

If in doubt about anything on Runescape go with the minimum of items to see if it is safe, if you are offered something for doing a simple task be careful and don't take anything you don't want to lose.

If you have trouble understanding this please leave a comment and I or any of the other clan members will try to explain it better.

Don't worry many adults have trouble being accountable for their actions as well, yes many adults like to blame others for their faults and problems but the successful ones such as Richard Branson and most of the millionaires who have worked for their wealth treat any failures as their own fault, if a business has failed because the staff were not good enough at their job it is easy to blame the staff, is it not the fault of the management for not picking the correct staff or not training them adequately? no its the fault of the man at the top for not picking the correct management to pick the correct staff and arrange training.

Take responsibility for your actions and you will keep your items and your account, you might even become a millionaire in real life.

Skills ---------- Archer skills are really cool, and it's fairly obvious which ones to get, but I'll give you an idea anyway. Level 10: Sol Arrow Level 15: Wind Sprint Level 20: Luna Arrow Level 30: Bow of Solluna Energy Level 35: Which ever faction you pick's skill By the way, notice that Agile Withdrawal is not in there. You probably do not want this skill. As it is, the Ki to get the level 30 and 35 skills is already fairly tight, assuming you leveled the way I did, which will be detailed below. Also, evey higher leveled archer I've talked to in game has suggested to not touch this skill, as it is pretty bad. Combos: Combos are a great way to start a fight with any mob, so you'll deffinatly want to make good use of them. Once you get the level 20 skill, make a combo of Sol and Luna, probably with Sol first in the combo. The reason for Sol first is that if you have on auto-skill (in the options window, 2nd tab) then after you execute the combo, you'll automatically start doing a Sol Arrow attack. At low levels, it's good to conserve your Chi, so it's better to do a little less damage and use half the chi. After you get the level 30 skill, you'll want to add that into the combo, at the end. Once you've hit about level 32 or 33, you can probably afford to buy lots of Ginseng, so you can put Solluna Energy first in your combo so you will auto-skill with it. When you're killing something and you want it dead fast, this helps a lot. Leveling ---------- Alright, here's the part you were probably looking forward to. So leveling with an archer is great because they deal a lot of damage (some of the highest early game) and if you try hard enough, never take damage. For the first part of the game, you'll pretty much trying to kite (hitting and running) on higher level monsters, or partying too, but that's not as fast as leveling solo. So, this is a guide almost completely for soloing, which is what I did with my archer, and it seemed to work fine. As a side note, the lower level mobs and tactics may not be as detailed simply because my memory isn't stellar, but it should work out fine for you. Anyway, here we go: Levels 1-6: Start out by killing Bobcats until you are level 2, then go on a mass Toad genocide until level 6. Also, remember to do any and all quests that get mailed to you. They seriously help a lot. Levels 7-15: Now, move up to foxes until about level 10, then you can run over to the Boars and Bulls. Start out with Bulls, and kill a boar every few minutes. If I recall correctly, the boars are fairly slow, so you can kite them pretty much painlessly. Also, do forget you have that Primium Healing Salve, which, if used conservitivly, should last you to level 20+. Also, as an alternative, at level 10 you can also try some Wolves, but try not to get in a fight with any Bears, they will be a bit rough. But once you are level 13 or 14, you can take the Bears easy if you hit and run. Don't forget to use your skill! Levels 16-20: Ok, this is where things can get a bit slow and painful, but it's not all that bad. Start on Three Tailed Foxes, and grind them for a few levels, until about 18. Then you can take Lumberjacks (they hit hard). At this point you will probably realise that even though they are your level, they hit you for about a third of your health. Yeah, get used to it, it'll happen for much much longer, it just comes with the archer job description. So kill Lumberjacks until 20, since at 20 they should be pretty easy once you stop being afraid of spamming potions. Also, I think if you get a good party, Blood Wolves and Black Bears are do-able at level 17+ or so, so that might be another way to level. However, parties aren't always reliable, and you don't get all the drops. And they're oh so hard to find. Levels 21-24: This is a fairly short level range, but if you want you can extend it to 25 or 26, or maybe even 27. At 21 you should head over to Zombies, despite what other guides or people might tell you. Zombies are non-aggro, and really really slow. Stand in an area where Banshee's don't spawn, and start a combo on a Zombie. You should be able to pull off one Sol/Luna combo, and then about 3 Lunas more and a Sol or so shoudl drop these guys. The exp is amazing, especially since you are soloing. Don't forget to run back while killing them however, one hit can kill you or bring you awefully close to kicking the bucket. If you stay here past 24, you can kill the Banshees too, they aren't bad exp, but they hit harder than the Zombies, have more health, and don't make a cool wood noise when they get hit. Levels 25-35 (I know I know): So this is where you will get very very sick of Bandits. At level 25, you can go and kite Blade Bandits solo, or maybe bring a party for some company. DO NOT HIT THE AXE BANDITS (red). Trust me, these guys run way to fast for you to kite effectively, and you will regret attacking them. Anyway, it's a good idea to find a spot where Blade Bandit's don't spawn (since they are aggro) and just draw them one by one into your little spot so you can run around and snipe them. At this point, you will need lots of potions, and lots of ginseng because you will be using lots and lots of chi, and if you get hit, it can really hurt. Ok, so at about level 27 or 28, you can try and find the Blade Bandit Boss. Look around for a Blade Bandit that is non-aggro, and isn't holding a sword. Also, when you click him, no name will appear above his head. There are 3 methods to kill this guy. The best way, exp wise, is to hit and run. He's the same speed at the normal Blade Bandit's so it's not that bad. If you get other Blade Bandit's following you while you kite the boss, either drag the mob through a area of bots or run away from the mob and hit the boss from as far away as possible to get him away from the group. The second way to kill him is to get a party and have one of the members, probably a healer or bladesman, hit the boss and run around with it. If they keep running it should keep targeting them, giving you the chance to hit him as hard and fast as possible without having to worry about moving. The third way is hard to do, but works semi-well. If you happen to know any higher leveled people, you can ask them to tank him for you. As long as they keep hitting him (you won't get as good exp, but the boss dies super fast), you can just sit back and sniper and not worry about getting hit. Also, if they are especially high level, ask them to tank the Axe Bandit Boss for you (the red one without an axe). The bosses spawn at multiple points in the bandit area, so you can run from one boss to the other if it's not too crowded. This is how I leveled from about level 25 to 35, and it's really fast. The only downfall is that your Ki doesn't increase as much, and you get crap money. Also, if you can find a good party, Renegade Spearmen or Harpoon Fish Poacher are great exp, and if you can level for a solid amount of time, it should be great. People always say Tigers are okay at 30+, but they hit hard and aren't any better than the Blade Bandit Boss, so I never really saw the allure. So! That gets you to level 35, and actually pretty quickly to boot. I know soloing gets a little boring, so that's why I included the bits about partying, even if it isn't as fast. Don't be afraid or using lots and lots of potions and ginseng; they're your friends!

After much deliberation, the Dorgeshuun Council has decided to open the doors of Dorgesh-Kaan to surface-dwellers. Those adventurers who have completed Death to the Dorgeshuun may now enter the secret city of the cave goblins.
The first visitor to the city was the Makeover Mage, hired by the council to make the city presentable for its grand opening. Despite their concern at the presence of outsiders, even the humble citizens have submitted themselves to the Makeover Mage's skills, and they're all pleased with the results.
Inside the city you will find a marketplace specialising in exotic foods - which, for the cave goblins, means anything from the surface! You can attempt to sell any foods you like to the gourmets in the market, but the cave goblins have fickle tastes and a keen eye for trends, so you will find the prices changing as they become more used to certain foods. Vary your stock and you can reap the financial rewards that await the cunning merchant.
Also in the city, adventurers will find that they can practice their Crafting and Firemaking by helping to maintain the city's unique magical lighting system. Any adventurers prepared to abuse the cave goblins' trust will find rich pickings for skilled thieves. There is also a magical inventor who has found a way of making the city easier for surface-dwellers to reach, so you should look for him if you want to visit often.
Beyond the city is another area of the Lumbridge Swamp Caves populated by familiar monsters, plus a new one: the mysterious molanisk. Only adventurers with enough skill and the right equipment will be able to entice them off the walls to fight. Some of the cave bugs in this area have also grown to enormous proportions, and might provide a better option for experienced Slayers who receive cave bugs as an assignment.
High above the molanisks' heads is the magical power generator that the cave goblins use to power their city. The generator is a remarkable piece of technology, but prone to breaking down, and those with remarkable Agility will be able to help out by locating spare parts. Smashed pylons and old cables form the most difficult Agility course in the game, and crossbow-fired grappling hooks will also be useful to make the most of it.
On top of all this, there are plenty of ordinary cave goblins to talk to, and if you search the city you will find your old friend Zanik wandering around. She is dying to see you again, so grab your lantern and make the journey to Dorgesh-Kaan!

This is a tricky skill to raise in the fact that there are few ways to train it independently of your other skills.

There are 2 ways to train hit points easily both are using the Pest Control Minigame, at any level over 65 combat you can kill monsters and use the points given for training hp, in my eyes this is a waste of xp.

If you do your training at pest control and use your points for hp your hp will go up, that is fine having good hp will keep you alive longer but that is it, if you train another combat stat, attack you can hit more often so you get more xp for combat and hp, strength you hit harder and get more xp for combat and hp, defence you can stay fighting for longer you get more xp for combat and hp, Mage and Range are the same.

When you get 99 hp and have 90 attack, strength, defence, ramge and mage all your extra hp xp is going to waste as you are getting no benefit.

Now the bestest way to get HP xp that is a win win situation you need to be 94 mage, soz its only for the big boys, go to pest control and attack the portals using any means you want I use scimmy at the mo because im training strength, when spinners appear you normally have a pile of monsters under them use Ice Barrage on the spinner, you will get xp for all of the monsters in a large area, I often get xp in excess of 2k per game.

This in my eyes is the only way I can justify the cost of the runes for Ice Barrage, it costs a lot of money but the xp at Pest Control is so great it is well worth it.

When you Barrage it is very loud very cold and causes lag for many players, the comments of WOW or cool ancients or omg wat was that is really funny, players keep saying who's doing the ancients I just keep quiet and leave them guessing, I did answer once when someone asked me what spell it was I told him it was wind wave.

I wear dragon hide when doing PC even when maging, I can still hit multiple 30's with it on and you need some protection from the monsters, when my health gets low I switch to full Dharoks and have hit a max of 61 no pots or prayer so far which gets a few comments as well.

Ever since the update to the combat interfaces, your attack style would be reset to Accurate mode if you switched weapons to a magic staff. This will no longer happen unless there is no appropriate attack style available on the staff to match your previous mode.

This week also sees the release of a tough, new breed of animals. Herds of Desert Goats can now be found wandering around the Kharidian - um - Desert. Now there's a surprise!

Intrepid explorers who go hunting for these bleating beasts will find that they can collect goat horns, which, when powdered and mixed with Harralander, can make a new Combat potion. This magical (level 36) elixir combines the properties of a basic Attack Potion and Strength potion, so it's a handy addition to your inventory when heading into difficult combat situations.

Warning: Goats and the desert effect can be bad for your health!

For the past two months Postie Pete has been struggling to our gates with sackfuls of your fantastic artwork. Sculptures, paintings and etchings have been flooding in at a rate that has made even Pete sweat. He has collected together some of those that made him go "oooh", "aaah" or even made him chuckle a little. These fantastic creations are now available for viewing within the Players' Gallery.

The high-standard of work has made us want to return the favour, so we have cleaned our brushes, paid Aggie for a few vials of dye and made some of our own. So, available for download to your desktop, are six sparkling wallpapers for your viewing pleasure.

Will you dare go eyeballs to eyeball with the dreaded 'penance healers', who posed for this wallpaper between training for one of next year's updates, Barbarian Assault? Will you choose to marvel at the revised look of the rats, bears and elementals with our concept art? Or will you be sipping at a Blurberry Special in the gnome restaurant? The choice is yours.

The far-flung areas of RuneScape have allowed our writers in to explore for another batch of Area Guides. We have been mapping the dungeons, tasting the cuisine and chatting to various characters to give a comprehensive guide of what to expect in such treacherous areas as Waterbirth Island, the Falador Mole Lair and the Cave Goblin Mines.

Following the teleportation jewellery changes of last week, we have made another clutch of items usable while they are worn. The following can now be used with a simple right-click on the item and choosing the Operate option: the blessed silver sickle, the progress hat from the Mage Training Area, Prayer books, the Amulet of Catspeak, rubber chickens and the Nature Amulet.

There has also been a slight name change to the magic staff reward received from the White Knights. It is now called a 'white magic staff'.

In other news...
In response to feedback from players over the last week, we've adjusted the new interfaces to make them easier to use. In particular, the Run button has been moved to the bottom of the Options interface so that it's more convenient to click. The buttons have also been redesigned to make it more obvious exactly where you can click to toggle them.
The stats interface has returned to its old yellow colour since people were having trouble reading the orange version.
We've also fixed the bug whereby you could no longer get defence xp while autocasting magic spells.
You can now operate teleportation jewellery while you're wearing it! Just right-click on the item and choose the new Operate option. Do bear in mind that you'll have to click through the same "where would you like to go?" options as before, so it won't make it any easier for you to evade pkers.
The clickable areas on the spinning wheel interface have been enlarged to make them easier to use.

In order to make enough toys ready for Christmas, Diango’s shipped in as many raw materials as he can, including some of the wood from the haunted forest around Draynor Manor. What trouble can be caused by a few confused poltergeists? Will you be able to clean out the haunted workshop? Pick up your ghost-busting gear later on this month, and you might even earn yourself a spooky reward in this year's Halloween update. Also in October, Player-Owned Houses will get their first update since launch, with the all new costume room! Build magic wardrobes and treasure chests, and free up some space in the bank! Players will be able to store all their favourite random event costumes, special treasure trail outfits and even some of the odd little toys they've picked up on your travels over the years. More information will follow later this month. As well as all of your funky costumes, the POH addition will also be able to store one of our other releases this month... the awe inspiring “Capes of Achievement”. Yes, players who have reached the awesome status of having level 99 in a skill or completing all of the released quests will soon earn the right to wear a special cape. Each cape - one for each skill plus one for the quests - will be available in mono-colour or with a trim. Each cape also comes with its own special (and unique) animation, as well as a slight boost to its associated stat. The capes themselves look stunning, and will complement the outfits of even the flashiest adventurers. Player will also be able to explore the next level to the strange dungeon in Seers' Village this month, with the launch of Elemental Workshop Part 2. A new book has turned up talking about the mysteries of the “Elemental Helm”. What puzzles await? Only those with a logical mind should find out...

The way we use sound in the free and members' worlds gets its well deserved update this week with the inclusion of Area Sounds. These ambient effects add a new level of immersion into our game world, with waterfalls growing louder as you walk towards them, trees with birds and animal sounds in them, bubbling fountains, wind whistling through the mountains, the sound of the sea lapping against the shore and mysterious howls haunting the peaks of the Wilderness. It really does add a new dimension to the game.
As well as new ambient sounds, you'll also notice you can hear a lot more of what other people are doing around you, especially when they're fighting.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed developing them.
In other news...
Along with the area sounds, interface updates and new tutors, we've been busily improving existing features of the game. This week:
Adventurers who have defeated the terrible Iban and obtained his staff may use its new right-click option to check how many charges it has.Don't forget - it takes one charge to cast Iban Blast on a monster but two to cast it on another player.
Baby dragons have now shrunk slightly to solve the problem where their heads rendered incorrectly when they leant forwards. This doesn't affect their stats.
Rune and Adamant boots now have a +2 and +1 strength bonus respectively.
The random junk you occasionally found in chests and crates around the world has now been removed. Members can still get all those items from sources such as the Trawler, the HAM cave and the Digsite.

We've now been able to rework some of the core interfaces used for controlling your character. The combat, worn-items and options interfaces have been completely changed, getting away from the old designs which featured text on tiny buttons and replacing them with clearer graphics.

Skill Tutors - 27 September 2006

This week the Duke of Lumbridge has recruited a number of tutors to help our new runescape players, both F2P and members. Adventurers fresh from Tutorial Island can often find themselves a bit lost in Lumbridge, so he decided to offer a bit of a helping hand.
The tutors (marked with a "?" icon on your minimap) are mostly based in Lumbridge, with just one residing in Varrock. As well as offering free advice on skills at any level, they also give you basic equipment should you lose it and even some training weapons and basic supplies.Other additions include:
A Lumbridge bank, found at the top of Lumbridge Castle.
A revamp of the way signposts work.
A glassblower on Entrana.
An improved Newcomer map - to offer more information on where you are in the world. Available from certain General runescape Stores.
Useful reminders on what to do if you should happen to die while young.
A free teleport to help the lost adventurer who has no clue where they are. Please note – this teleport cannot be used to evade combat.
Along with the new guides you'll find the swamps south of Lumbridge have received a bit of landscaping with more rocks being exposed for mining, new fishing spots in the river and Father Uhrney moving his hut even further away from the hustle and bustle of city life. With all this recent tectonic movement going on, a small island has appeared in the middle of the River Lum enabling those crossbow-equipped adventurers to cross to Al Kharid and back.

For Holgart, the peaceful village of Witchaven was the perfect place to retire and spend the rest of his days fishing. Sadly, some greedy merchant decided to build a huge fishing platform right in front of them, killing off the livelihood of every fisherman in the village. Many adventurers have already visited the platform and its strange guests, but little has been done about their strange powers... until now.
Despite the fact that most of the population of nearby Ardougne had forgotten the village even existed, Mayor Hobb is a proud and resourceful man who will not leave the glory of Witchaven to the history books. Is he responsible for the sudden rise in activity in the area, or is there some other power at work here?

Whatever it may be, it's the perfect opportunity for the Temple Knights to send out their most promising initiate for a spot of investigation and possibly a little heroic evil-destroying action. In other news...

Along with Slug Menace and the game engine upgrades we mentioned in previous announcements, we've also adjusted a few game features that needed attention. In particular:

Duradel, the Slayer Master in Shilo Village, has been persuaded to rethink the assignments he sets. He's dropped the weaker monsters from his list, so experienced adventurers may find him much more likely to set them a challenge worthy of their combat skills.
If you're smelting iron ore with a ring of forging, you'll now automatically stop when the ring melts.
We've fixed a bug where some of the Vyrewatch kit was the wrong colour.
When you cast a spell at a monster, it should now flinch in pain instead of just standing impassively and glaring at you.
South of the Barrows, the Burgh de Rott fence has been extended as far as the Vyrewall so that unwary adventurers won't wander unexpectedly into the nasty Vampyre Juvinates that roam that region.
This being Morytania, the fence is falling down already, and anyone who's reaching the end of In Aid of the Myreque will be able to find a way through.
If you're stuck behind the fence with the vampyres, don't worry - you will be able to climb out to freedom.
We've added a bit more variety to the sound of woodcutting!
The interface you see when you use a spinning wheel has been enlarged to make room for future spinnable items. Along with this we've added an option for spinning crossbow strings out of tree roots.
The monks who run the ship from Port Sarim to Entrana do not permit you to take gauntlets or hand-armour to their holy island. However adventurers travelling to Entrana through the Abyss were able to take such items onto Entrana via the Law Altar.
Saradomin has recently tightened up his restrictions, so it is no longer possible to take gauntlets or other armoured hand-wear through the Abyss to Entrana.

We're sure some of you are wondering when the next update will be and what we've been up to lately - So we thought we'd tell you a little bit about what's been going on. We haven't forgotten about you! We have just been (very) busy upgrading Runescript (our custom scripting language that we use to write the game).
Before we can start using the new version, we need to make sure that everything still works and that the changes won't break existing content. With a game as complex as RuneScape this has been an enormous task, hence the gap in updates last week. Indeed key people have been working evenings and weekends as well to get it all done!

Naturally we are still working on the types of exciting updates you'd expect, but 'under the hood' upgrades like this are also essential to help us do new types of content and continue to raise the standard of future releases.

We are aiming for an update later this week assuming the rest of our internal testing continues to progress without issue. If you're wondering what it will be, do read the behind the scenes document for September. We are still planning on sticking to that schedule and releasing the updates we said we would this month. And that's in addition to the Runescript upgrade work!

Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to give players any items, stats, or quest completions upon request. All items must be earned through game play.
We understand that it can be upsetting to see other players going around with high levels and top-end equipment when you don't have any, but don't lose heart. Keep on training, questing, fighting, and playing and you will soon have good stuff all on your own.
Are there any cheats for RuneScape?
There are no cheat codes available for RuneScape, nor do we have any intention of adding any to the game. Firstly macroing ruins the game for everyone else. We don't want some players having an unfair advantage and filling up all the best training spots with bots. This game is designed to be enjoyed by humans, not bots. In the past when we have not enforced this rule, we have rapidly found it quickly spoils the game, and players themselves start demanding that we enforce it. So now we enforce it thoroughly. Secondly we don't want players to download macro software from untrusted sources that can, and often do, contain keyloggers, trojans and viruses. Many players have had their accounts stolen because they have inadvertently installed hacking software on their machines.
How does the new macro detection system work?
Our new macro detection system monitors activity on our servers and detects suspicious behaviour. This evidence is reviewed by our team of experts who either confirm or reject the systems analysis. Jagex will not reveal the exact mechanics of how this system works because this would make circumvention easier.
What type of third party software counts as an unfair advantage?
This includes, but is not limited to the following 3rd party programs:
* Programs that attempt to communicate directly with the RuneScape game worlds.* Programs that monitor, modify or decrypt the communications between the RuneScape client and the RuneScape worlds.* Programs that generate input to the RuneScape client. This includes programs that automatically move the mouse pointer or generate mouse clicks or key presses.* Modified versions of the RuneScape client. Will I be able to appeal against a ban for macroing?
Our policy has always been to not tolerate any form of cheating. We do not ban accounts lightly. Significant evidence is always collected before any action is taken against a player. We will not reveal the evidence that we have collected, since most cheats only want to know the evidence so that they can avoid getting caught the next time.
What is AFK Training?
AFK training is Away From Keyboard training. Whilst you are playing on RuneScape, you must be at the computer. Away from keyboard training is not allowed, and you should log out when you leave the computer.

Someone claiming to work for Jagex has asked me for my account details. Should I give it to them?
There are three ways to recognise Jagex Staff:
* Jagex Staff characters always have gold crowns next to their names* Jagex Staff will never ask for a password.* Jagex Staff will never contact you about your account in game.
We have no 'undercover' staff, we have no need for your password to check your account, and we only communicate with players about account issues via their message center.
If you ever see anyone attempting to impersonate a Jagex Staff member or any other player then we would ask you to use the 'Report Abuse' button located at the bottom of the screen, and follow the on screen prompts so that we can take the appropriate actions against their account.
If Jagex Staff have gold crowns, who are the players in-game that have silver crowns?
The players that have silver crowns by their names when speaking in-game are Player Moderators. Anyone that does not have a silver crown next to their name is not a Player Moderator.
